For an airport eatery, Wolfgang Puck Express deserves a 5 star rating. The cashier, Lance, was friendly and helpful when I told him I came from C gates to try this place out (it's next to gate D17) because there aren't many fresh options over there like there is in D. I had a couple hours before my next flight, so the two tram rides wasn't a big deal. (Lance was surprised I came all that way just for some lunch, but I prefer good food over fast food).
Out of all the places in terminal D, I decided on WPE because I heard Wolfgang on Justin Long's podcast recently. He sounds like a nice guy who wants people to feel good when they eat. He said his favorite dish to eat is the spaghetti.
I'm pleasantly surprised by the Chinese Chicken Salad ($16.23 with tax). The ingredients are added to a stainless steel bowl and combined on the spot: mixed greens (with curly endive and radicchio? - whatever that purple/white lettuce is), moist chicken chunks, cashews, a few carrot slivers, crunchy bits, and loads of fresh ginger flavor without needing to overuse the dressing!
Decent sized chunks of moist (tasted like rotisserie) chicken (see photo) and more than what I usually get at any restaurant.
There are some little tables inside their space, plus a bar where a dedicated bartender mixes drinks plus has beer on tap, and plenty of seating out in the walkway.
If I have time and need to eat the next time at this airport, I'll swing over to Wolfgang Puck Express and try another dish! -

My bartender wasn't friendly plus skimped me on the alcohol for my drink .. can't say anything else

My first puck experience other than pizza. What s lame disappointment.
I'm writing this half hour after arriving. I cannot get attention of the waitress to get a drink.
The cook does not know what's in the food ( diet issue).
Just a mess. Pretty much a low end chain so not sure why he's so popular. -

Great place to get a bite near gate d17. Fast and not cold. Cal pizza kitchen took 30 min before they attempted to take our order. This was fast, friendly and fresh. Maybe the best kept secret in terminal 1 d gates.

I am rarely one to complain, especially about airport food, but this Italian Bistro sandwich is possibly one of the worst sandwiches I've ever had. If the soggy, thickly cut white bread masked by the name "sough dough" doesn't turn you off, the herbed mayo slapped onto the outside of it definitely will - and earn you a few crumpled napkins. If you dare to continue, ignore the mediocre cold cuts inside and just eat the side of chips. Not worth it.
